6th African History Month Conference: The African Holocaust (Maafa) : Remembrance of the Victims of Trans-Atlantic ,the Indian ocean and Trans-Saharan Slave Trade.
Join on 25th March African History Month Conference as we pay tribute to our ancestors forcefully captured and taken into slavery during the European and Arab Slave Trade Period. We will investigate the European and Arab role in slavery and how it impacted people of African descent and how people see Africa today. Over 13 centuries countless East Africans were sold as slaves by Muslim Arabs to the Middle East and other places via the Sahara desert and Indian Ocean but the history today underestimates or downplays the Arab role in slavery . The sale of African slaves can be traced back to antiquity. It became popular in the seventh century when Islam was gaining strength in North Africa. This was seven centuries before Europeans explored the continent and ten centuries before West Africans were sold across the Atlantic to America. Further Reading resources:
